Gli Archi Buffet Review: Mediterranean Spread with Mixed Results

Introduction. Gli Archi Buffet is one of MSC's standard ship buffets, named for the arched design elements that frame the serving stations. Found on MSC Meraviglia-class and other vessels, it offers the typical cruise buffet proposition — complimentary, open for extended hours, and built to serve a high volume of guests. Like all MSC buffets, Italian and Mediterranean staples form the backbone of the offering.

Food & Drinks

The Italian stations remain the buffet's strongest asset — fresh-rolled pasta with bolognese or pesto, wood-fired style pizza that arrives frequently from the oven, and antipasti platters with cured meats and marinated vegetables that reflect genuine Mediterranean flavors. Breakfast features a solid European spread: good croissants, cold cuts, cheeses, and a cooked station with eggs and bacon. The carved roast at dinner (when available) is worth queuing for — properly rested and seasoned. Where it falls short: the international stations attempt too much and deliver too little — Asian-inspired stir-fries taste generic, the Indian curries lack depth, and seafood items under heat lamps quickly lose texture and appeal. Atmosphere

The arched architectural theme gives the space slightly more character than a standard cruise buffet, but the reality is a large, bright, high-traffic dining hall. Noise levels at peak hours are significant. The outdoor seating area (weather permitting) is the better choice — pool-adjacent tables with natural light and fresh air transform the meal from cafeteria to casual al fresco. On Mediterranean itineraries, eating outdoors with a sea view nearly compensates for any food shortcomings.
