Silver Screen Bistro Review: Movie-Themed Dining That Entertains

Introduction. Silver Screen Bistro is a cinema-themed complimentary dining venue found on select Norwegian ships. It combines casual American bistro food with movie memorabilia and old Hollywood glamour. The menu covers comfort-food territory — steaks, seafood, pasta — all included in the cruise fare. It's an alternative to the main dining rooms with a more thematic, relaxed vibe.

Food & Drinks

The menu leans classic American bistro. The Cobb Salad is one of the better salads on the ship — properly assembled with quality blue cheese, crispy bacon, and avocado. The Grilled NY Strip is good for a complimentary venue — nicely seasoned with a decent char, though not specialty-steakhouse caliber. The Fish Tacos are fresh and well-balanced with a lime crema. Where it falls short: the Pasta Carbonara lacks the richness of a true carbonara — it tastes like cream sauce, not egg and Pecorino. The burger is fine but no better than O'Sheehan's version. The appetizer selection is limited. Desserts rotate but the Brownie Sundae is consistently good — warm, fudgy, with real ice cream.

Service is friendly and casual — table service with a relaxed pace. Staff lean into the movie theme and are generally upbeat. The wait for a table is usually shorter than the main dining rooms, making it a good alternative on busy sea-day evenings. Dinner runs about 60-75 minutes. The wine and cocktail list is the standard NCL selection.

Atmosphere

The movie theme is fun — classic film posters, vintage Hollywood decor, screens showing old movies. It's not over-the-top but adds character that the main dining rooms lack. The space is typically mid-sized (50-70 seats) and feels intimate. Lighting is dim and atmospheric. It attracts families early and couples later, and works for both. On some ships, a projector shows classic films during dinner, which is a nice touch.
