The Mixx Review: Smoothies and Juices, If You Can Find It

Introduction. The Mixx is NCL's dedicated juice and smoothie bar, found on select ships. It serves fresh juices, smoothies, and health-focused blended drinks for a surcharge ($5-8 per drink). It's positioned as the wellness option — the alternative to the poolside Pina Colada for guests who want something nutritious. Not covered by the standard beverage package on most sailings.

Drinks & Service

The menu runs 10-15 blended drinks: Tropical Green (spinach, mango, pineapple), Berry Blast (mixed berries, banana, yogurt), Detox Cleanse (ginger, lemon, cucumber), and several build-your-own options. The smoothies use fresh and frozen fruit — quality is above average for a cruise ship. Acai bowls may be available on some ships. No alcohol is served. Fresh-squeezed orange juice and carrot juice are available and taste noticeably better than the buffet alternatives. Pricing runs $5-8 per drink, which adds up quickly over a 7-day cruise. Protein powder and supplement add-ons are available for $1-2 extra.

Service

It's counter service — order, wait 1-2 minutes, pay. The staff are friendly. The line is rarely long because most guests don't know it exists. On ships where it's co-located with the spa, it captures the post-treatment crowd effectively. The limited hours (typically 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.) mean it's closed when you might want a post-dinner health drink.

Atmosphere

A small counter — sometimes near the spa, sometimes near the fitness center — with a clean, health-focused aesthetic. Bright colors, fruit photography, and a smoothie bar vibe. There's no seating area to speak of; it's grab-and-go. The location varies by ship and is often hard to find for first-time cruisers. On ships where it's near the spa, the post-massage-smoothie pipeline works well. The atmosphere is "wellness corner" rather than social destination. You won't linger here; you'll order, drink, and continue to wherever you were going. The limited operating hours (closed by early evening) mean it's a daytime-only amenity.

Rating: 3.4/5. The Mixx offers genuinely good smoothies and fresh juices for health-conscious cruisers. It loses points for the steep per-drink pricing, limited hours, hard-to-find location, and small menu. Tip: Get the Tropical Green smoothie after the gym — it's the best healthy option on the ship.
